Northwest Washington 2008 Fair

Yesterday was our family’s fair day.  And I am tired today!!  I would guess that we walked about 20 miles yesterday.  It was action packed from begin to the end.  First off who needs sleep, I sometimes think that it is over-rated.  Like yesterday after working a night shift.  I came home and couldn’t go to sleep so I decided that I am going to start writing down my family history.  Which then turned into phone calls to my parents to ask them questions that I have forgotten or didn’t know.  3 hours later, with Merriann and Z up they where getting ready to go to the fair as we had planned.  So since I didn’t get any sleep it wasn’t their fault so we got our stuff pack and off to the NW fair we go.  I think all and all I was awake for about 30 hours.  So needless to say it was a long day.

First off Merriann needed sunglasses so we went to look for some that she liked.

Until she found some that she liked.  Doesn’t she look so good,  She’s a hot MAMA!!!

Next we are off to the RIDES!!!!  Z only got to ride two rides before she got scared because they where “To scary for her”.   But I think it was just because it was nap time.   So we took a little break from the Fair.  We went home had something to eat and got a little nap.

But with a little nap and some food in our bellies.  She was ready to RIDE as long as I rode with her (which is not to much to ask).  It was fun for as both of us.

After we saw the bunnies, a juggling show, and all the boothes we were done!  We all sleep well that night.

One of My favorite Salsa Recipes

wanted to share one of my favorite salsa recipes.  We found it when we had the ceramic studio. We made it for our girls’ night and it quickly became one of the most requested dishes. So I thought I would share it we you guys. It is a great picnic dish and with summer coming to a end soon I think you should try it today!!

Avocado Salsa

1 (16 ounce) package frozen corn kernels, thawed

2 (2.25 ounce) cans sliced ripe olives, drained

1 red bell pepper, chopped

1 small onion, chopped

5 cloves garlic, minced

1/3 cup olive oil

1/4 cup lemon juice

3 tablespoons cider vinegar

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 avocados – peeled, pitted and diced

Directions

In a large bowl, mix corn, olives, red bell pepper and onion.

In a small bowl, mix garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, cider vinegar, oregano, salt and pepper. Pour into the corn mixture and toss to coat. Cover and chill in the refrigerator 8 hours, or overnight.

Stir avocados into the mixture before serving.

It has a little kick to it due to the garlic, but other than that it is simple that best (non tomato) salsa on the planet, in my opinion. I hope you try it and tell me what you thought of it. Maybe even share your favorite salsa tomato base or not.

Well, the site is back up and running sorta, I am in the process of adding back all the pictures that got lost.  So it will take a little while for that but Merriann can now post new happenings around the Thames household.  So I hope that everyone enjoys the new site.

Some of the new features are:

A search engine:  So now if you wanted to find a old post (Like Texas for example) all you have to do is enter in Texas in the search window and bang there you go!!

RSS Feed:  What happens here is when we make any updates to the site, you are notified.  And since we are not the greatest at updating our site, this will help you know when we have updated the blog.

Addition of Categories:  So when we add a new post or page on a subject we can put it is a Categories like for example we want to share a new recipe that was awesome that we tried we can put in the Recipe Category.  And then anyone can go to that category and see all the recipes that we have posted about.

There are other upgrades that come with this new site has but it is in the back office part of the site, which makes it easier to manage.  So to all of those of you that check out the site from time to time thanks for your patience with me while I make this site a little bigger, better, faster and more.

Old Settlers Parade

A couple weekends ago was the Old Settlers Parade.  The parade celebrates the town history.  I thought about sharing that history with you but the would make for a very long post so here is the link to Whatcom Old Settlers Associationin which you can get some more info.

Merriann, Zoe & I hitched a ride on the ConocoPhillips Fire Truck.

Zoe enjoyed waving at people but decided next year she was passing out candy.

One great part was our truck was the 3rd or 4th in line so we were done with plenty of time to head back to main street and watch the rest of the parade. Lets not forget those promised photos of Trina Jazzercising down main street!

Sorry We are Experiencing Some Technical Difficulties…..

Sorry we are experiencing some technical difficulties… 😦  I was just trying to improve our site and look what that got us.  Oh well!!!  I was just trying to add a few new things to our family blog like being able to search the entire site for past post and pages, be able to add and control videos and other content, and addition of a real website part to our site, and a calendar of events.But surprise most of that cool stuff doesn’t work right now. But I am working to restore the site (at least the pictures). So pray for me.

Church Campout

This last weekend was our Church’s annual Camp Out at Silver Lake. Greg had to work Saturday so Zoe and I headed up Saturday afternoon at visit for the day. I had (briefly) thought about actually staying the night Saturday but then I remembered: Pregnant…sleeping on the ground…um…No Thanks.
We had a blast and are already making plans for next year. We are going to check with the church to see if they always have it the 1st weekend in August so Greg can be sure to request that weekend for vacation (all vacations have to be requested at the beginning of the year which makes it a little harder)

We visited and played for a while and then headed to the SBCC Olympics. They had a rope obstacle (running through 3 turning ropes without touching), a run/hop relay race, fill the bucket relay, Kick Your Shoe (going for distance) Simon Says, and of course…tug-a-war.

Saturday night after singing around the campfire they handed out Gold, Silver, and Bronze metals. Zoe’s team won the Bronze! She ran up front to receive her metal and came running back so excited. “Mom! Look! What’s this for!”

She even found a dog willing to follow her around for a while. I have learned that Zoe is more of a dog person than a cat person. Not that she doesn’t LOVE cats…she does. But, sometimes I think she loves them a little too much. But, she does great with dogs!
