On my birthday we toured around the area and did some exploring. We came across the Duck Creek area and even found a cute little visitor center.
We had seen signs about Mammoth Caves and inquired within. The gentleman there gave us this great map and we were off.
The “road” through this area was questionable at times. The recent rains also had us a little nervous. One thing we don’t have on our van is 4-wheel drive. And we won’t mention all the turns that weren’t on the map. Thankfully they kept putting out these signs to keep us moving forward.
We loved seeing these Pronghorn roaming around. There was a little heard of about 7 of these guys grazing.
We finally made it! We had a nice little walk round the area before heading into the cave. Ok, I’ll be honest. We are apparently directionally challenged and were searching for the huge hole in the ground. Yes, that one you see below. The one we could have thrown a rock into from our car. Thats the one. Oh well, it made our trip just that much more memorable. And we saw some great views from the edge of the mountain.
‘Mammoth’ in this case did not refer to the height of these caves.
The shorties of the group were able to go in with no problem but those over four feet had some trouble. Especially with the additional baby on the back. So, the spelunking adventure was a little shorter than expected but, still fun memories.
We headed back to the hotel for some teriyaki chicken and cheesecake
Thanks a lot honey… 🙂
See you next time!

Homeschool Trip 2014: Cedar Breaks
Leave a comment StandardOn the road to Bryce Canyon we came across this little place. It was a fun, quick stop to get out and stretch our legs. It also gave us a taste of what we would encounter later.
At each of the parks the kids would get their Junior Ranger books and work toward earning their badges.
The ranger at this stop was great. He was so excited the kids were working on their books and went through each step with them before giving their badge to them.
How time flies, but stays the same

Comment 1 StandardHere are some pictures from a recent trip to Birch Bay.
I finally figured out how Greg can have fun at the beach. Sure he loves to go to the beach but (for anyone that knows him) he’s not much of a ‘sit around for hours and watch the kids play kinda guy. But, when he brings his gear its a whole new story. He has fun, the kids have fun and we all get to enjoy the videos in the end.
A new house!
Comment 1 StandardWell, color that is. From the day we first looked our house I’ve been less than thrilled with the color. It was white. White…with blue trim and a blue roof. It stuck out. And not in a good way. But, I seem to be the only one that had a problem with it. Whenever i mentioned the bright blue roof to people they would look at me like I was crazy. Yes, I know I am crazy but that’s not the point. The roof was just so BLUE. And the house…so WHITE.

But, all that has changed. The roof is still very blue (apparently painting a metal roof is discouraged). But the house is now a dark gray with white trim. It looks clean and crisp. I really do love white trim on a dark background.
Next up (or at least on the list) of projects to do to the house is refinish the porch and I would love some rails. Don’t you just love a lazy dog? 😉
Spring is in full swing around here
Comment 1 StandardWe have quite the list of things happening around here. Yesterday it was the planting of the outside garden.
Earlier this year Greg put together a little greenhouse to get our feet wet in the greenhouse adventure. So far we are loving it and I don’t see that changing.

We put our starts out here and they grew beautifully. Inside we have tomatoes, watermelon and a red pepper.

Those starts have now entered the big boy garden.

The trellises will be holding the beans and peas.

And since taking these pictures we have also added rows of carrots, radishes, cabbage and pumpkins. Please excuse the pictures. I decided to capture and record these days as quickly as possible I would just use the iPad for pictures. Things move fast around here 🙂 Stay tuned!
I saw it on Pinterest…
Leave a comment StandardAnd it worked! I’m so excited. Eggs. Hard boiled eggs. Farm fresh hard boiled eggs. Anyone that’s tried to peel a fresh from the coop hard boiled egg knows. Basically you end up with a yoke. All your whites are stuck in the shell. But now. We can reclaim our whites!
Steam those beautiful golden yoked babies for 22 minutes, cool a little in cold water and peel away. Enjoy! 🙂
Milestones
Comment 1 StandardOliver hit a new milestone today. Two wheels! And already he is trying his hand at tricks.
Spring Party 2014
Comment 1 StandardDon’t you just love a last minute party? And a last minute party with friends that are all about last minute too is even better. We quickly planned out this party with a focus on simple but fun. I even set up decorations! (something I tend to avoid)
We made our springy snacks. Deviled eggs, rainbow fruit kabobs, and cupcakes.
And set up our springy games. We had pin the tail on the bunny and pin the stinger on the bee. We ended with the safest bee around…no stinger! Zeke ended up closest and actually hit the wall. The kids were absolutely thrilled with this game. Our next game was outside for a butterfly hunt.
We had fabulous spring weather that helped make this party a huge success.
After the games the big girls painted flower masks out in the sun and the younger kids played outside looking for beetles, spiders and worms. We had a craft planned for them (just in case) but we were not about to drag them inside for it. We just saved it for another day and the moms were able to enjoy a peaceful (read quiet) latte with chocolate cupcake while the kids played in the sun.
